Marvin Parnes

Marvin G. Parnes recently retired after more than 40 years at the University of Michigan (U-M) where he worked in a variety of roles in upper administration including as Associate Vice President for Research and Managing Director of the Institute for Social Research. He continues to serve as a member of the School of Social Work Dean’s Advisory Board and on the Social Justice Changemakers Committee and as a Mentor in Strategic Public Policy Consulting at the Ford School of Public Policy.  Marvin has held leadership roles in many local, state, and national organizations and associations, including the NIH National Advisory Council. Early in his career, he was a Senior Counselor/Social Worker at U-M Counseling & Psychological Services and Coordinator of Group Services and Peer Counseling. As a psychotherapist, he maintained a private practice from 1975 to 1990.
