Policy Committee

The Policy Committee addresses the lack of support for psychotherapy in our professional organizations and governmental bodies. This committee has worked in partnership with the so-called “New Jersey 6” psychologists to protest APA’s guidelines project and circulate a petition in support of this protest, to educate legislators regarding their well-intentioned but impulsive objection to McCance-Katz’s decision to suspend updates to the National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices, to educate lawmakers about threats to talk therapy posed by proposed changes to Medicare, Medicaid, legislation around mental health program funding and the like. Further, we participate in Illinois’s Mental Health Summit in order to create a voice for psychotherapy in state-level legislation. We will soon be applying for Affiliate status in the Mental Health Liaison Group, a national advocacy organization.
